Let's Go Fly a Kite!

Family Night is something we all look forward to!
Colt makes an effort to come home early those nights.
We have a prayer, song, simple (very simple) lesson, with an activity (usually supports the lesson) and a treat.  It is a fun-filled evening with a Spiritual Tie-in.
This time we had a lesson about a little girl and her Dad that went out to fly a kite.
When the kite got to the end of the string, the little girl wanted the kite to go higher.
Cut the string!  She said to her Dad, then the kite can take off and go higher.  The Dad cut the string...and...the kite Crashed!
The String is like Obedience.  When we hold tight to the string, the kite will soar.  Heavenly Father gives us commandments, and when we are obedient, we can fly higher than we could without being obedient.  Parent's also have rules and ask us to do things.  We need to be obedient to parents too.
Heavenly Father and parents give us rules because they love us and want us to be happy.
Here's an idea I picked up recently:  When your child asks why, instead of saying "Because I said so"
try "Because I Love You!"

We learned that letting the kite go has the same effect as cutting the string.  River was very impressed that Mommy chased down the kite and caught it before it completely crashed.
We then took a family walk to the mailbox, with the kite too :)
And ended our evening eating ice cream
and watching the sunset and the stars come out.

A great evening spent together!
