Adventures in Art

When you do art projects as much as we do, there are bound to be some spills and messes.
Here are a few of ours:
Brought to you by:   Summer Echo!
Permanent Marker on my computer monitor.
Yikes!
Thank my lucky stars I have an amazing stain remover that disolves permanent marker!!  (Sol-U-Mel by Melaleuca available sometimes on ebay)  It brought it right off!

Brought to you by:  Me!
We have a fun spin art maker that spins a piece of paper.  As the paper spins you squeeze paint onto the paper creating a swirled splattered effect.  Way fun!
Silver was trying to squirt her paint out and it wasn't coming.  I dug around a bit (pushing the lump of paint further in) and it started coming out until the lump clogged the spout again.  After a couple times of stuck paint - I put the paint tip up and squeezed gently - thinking I could get that bothersome piece of lumpy paint out of the tube.  As it didn't come out with gentle pressure, I sqeezed harder.
*Sigh*
The bottle says "Simply Washable Paint"  As I scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed the wall and ceiling - I thought:  why does this not wash off if it says washable?  Reading the fine print on the bottle says that it is only washable on surfaces that are meant to be washed.  I guess a wall does not fit into that category?
We still have a lovely pink stripe down our wall :)

Way fun!
Take a piece of paper - preferably large - and squrt paint on it.
Fold the paper in half and squish the paint around.

Super cool effects
On hair too!
Brought to you by:  Excited Friends!
We had friends over and they did these art projects with us.
One friend lifted up her paper showing us what a pretty job she did and shared the paint job with River :)

Summer in the background starting the bath water :)
I love pictures of Summer - she is such a little kid that can do so many things - she is so petite and tiny and tries to hard to keep up with her sisters.  Tonight the girls set up a chair by the couch.  Climbed onto the chair, then onto the arm of the couch, then jumped to the couch and off to couch cushions on the floor.  They did this over and over and Summer was right there with them bailing off the couch on the cushions and giggling and proud to be right there with them.

This one is a mess clean up!
When the windows need cleaned (frequently with little smudges and handprints) the girls draw on the windows with washable markers and then when done they get to wash off all their drawings - cleaning the windows while they are at it.  :)

After wiping the windows down we have handprints!

We'll end today with the bathroom rules.
River likes to have rules and to make sure everyone knows the rules.
When she was small she came to me one day saying that she needed a pen.  I gave her one and she produced the above sign.  I asked her what it said:
Don't pee on the floor and don't poo in the tub!
This was prompted by little sisters :)

Once she learned how to write she needed to update her sign!
She turned it around and wrote out the rules so everyone would understand our house rules!

Shaving Cream Dancing FHE

While Colt and I were going to college, we took care of an elderly couple.  We lived with them and cooked and cleaned for them.  We had room and board plus $200/month.  This was a blessing to them that they could stay in their home and not have to go to an assisted living center.  It was a huge blessing to us that we could work together and from home.  While there we once sprayed shaving cream all over the floor and danced and twirled and giggled while cleaning their kitchen floor.  They laughed and talked about that to all their friends and family.  It brought them and us many happy memories.

For FHE We shared with our girls the magic of cleaning the floor with shaving cream!!
I got a nice clean floor after they were done having fun! :)

Book Review

Video:  Silver reading
This video was taken a long time ago - when Summer was just born.
Super cute!

Silver reading

Sisters sharing a tale

Video: Silver reading
Another old one - Summer is JUST like Silver.
They are twins 2 years apart.
I love her toes sticking out from under the books.

If Only I Were.... school library - by Carl Sommer
A+  Missy is a mouse.  A small mouse with a BIG Problem!  She doesn't like being a mouse!  She dreams of being a cat...then she'd be happy!  One day she gets her wish and turns into the biggest and most beautiful cat in the whole world.  Only to discover that cats have their problems too.  As do tigers, elephants, people....etc.  She discovered that Everyone has problems.  She decided not to be sad anymore, and she became a very happy mouse.

A Balloon for Isabel.  by Deborah Underwood  Illustrated by Laura Rankin  F Library
Isabel is a porcupine.  Porcupines + Balloons = Trouble!  No porcupines in Isabel's school ever get balloons......Is it possible without popping it?  Everyone tells her no.  She tries several things that don't work but sticks with it and uses her creativity to find something that does.  A+   Must Read

Max's Dragon:  F Library - Imagination as Max pretends he has a dragon.  The characters in the story make rhymes to get rid of things or to make things happen.  Fun with Rhyming!

Over in the Jungle - F Library - By Marianne Berkes, Illustrated by Jeanette Canyon.  Cute book to the tune of "over in the Meadow".  Fun with new characters to the familiar tune.  The thing that makes this book is the amazing illustrations.  She has done it through polymer clay.  Absolutely darling.  Fun to read, fun to look at and fun to sing!

Blast Off - F Library - by Malachy Doyle   Super charming tale!  Stuffed animal toys have found a spaceship! Now they only need to figure out who will be the lucky one to go to space. Jim Giraffe is too tall to fit, Sally Sheep is afraid of the dark and Chickadoodle is just too little! Silver and Summer would guess who would make it all the way through the countdown and be the one to blast off into space.  Practicing counting down too!  Super Fun, Super cute illustrations too!

I Love You All Day Long - This was such a good one to read with River as she went off the Kindergarten.  Owen is anxious about being away from his Mommy.  A comforting tale of how a parent's love stays with a child whether they are together or apart -- all day long.  All Owen has to do is remember that she'll love him "all day long." She loves him when he does well and when he makes mistakes and accidents.   River asks me at the end of the book....so.....do you love me even when I'm grouchy?  Hhhmmmm......so.....do you love me even when I'm angry?

Two Peas in a Pod

I have really enjoyed my time with these 2 little sweethearts
with River at school it's been nice to spend some more time with these little ones on their level.  Silver has really grown up a lot - cognitively, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, socially.   She turned 3 and left the terrible 2s!
VIDEO:  Silver and Summer
The camera comes out and I can never quite capture the giggles!
VIDEO:  Real Life!  Silver and Summer
My 2 Peas in a pod
Summer looks JUST like Silver did at this size!

Flour!

I love watching Summer eat.
Such a tiny kid!

The girls LOVE headbands.

Silver teaches Summer.
Summer wants to badly to do everything her sisters do.  She wants to dress up in dresses, dress up shoes, flowers in her hair and headbands.

She's SO proud to be a big girl!

Sharing a treat.

My BIG helpers!
Silver asks:  "Mom, Can I help you?"
She wants to help with the dishes, laundry, and general cleaning.
Music to my ears!
