Land Mine FHE

I have enjoyed the  book

Why?: Powerful Answers and Practical Reasons for Living LDS StandardsThe authors also have a How?  Companion book called "Essential skills for living the gospel"
This link will take you to both the why and the how sites:  http://ldswhy.com/

They are geared for teenagers and brings up answers to questions about the gospel.  I have enjoyed showing pictures to the girls and using them for Family Night Discussions.
One night we talked about mine fields (Why book)
It was made especially close to home as my Grandpa Opa had to drag his sister across mine fields from Germany to Switzerland after World War II.  We talked about how scary it would be to have to cross something that you knew had mines in it, but you didn't know where they were.  Then if they were marked for you, it would still be tricky and you would have to go slowly, but you could avoid them.

Summer making her way across the mine field
We talked about how life has sins, temptations and mistakes and how we can know what is right and wrong - the mine fields are marked!!  We have scriptures, prophets, and parents, teachers and extended family too that love us and will teach us so that we can safely cross!

Even Daddy got in on the fun

We then talked about how we have a straight and narrow way that we don't have to risk falling over by tiptoeing around!  We can walk confidently down the middle knowing that we are heading in the direction that the Lord would have us go.  Heavenly Father has a plan and he wants us to return to him, he has showed us the way and clearly marked it for us by the example of his Son and continuing revelation to the Prophets.  Follow the Prophet!"

We then blindfolded them and had the walk to straight and narrow with two voices:
Daddy tried to steer them off-course and Mommy was the Holy Ghost who told them which direction to go and how to course-correct if they were headed for the edge!

Oh What FUN!  The girls LOVED it and wanted to do it over and over again :)

We then pulled out our Armor of God and had them sing Scripture Power and deflect the darts of the adversary with their shields!
