Ice Fishing

Silver came down with a nasty bug - high fever and headache with a cough that wiped her out for several days.  It happened to land on our planned ice fishing trip.  She was devastated that she couldn't go!  She knew she was really sick, so she accepted that that was best, but she was so disappointed.  It turned out to be REALLY cold that day and they didn't catch a thing until dark.  River was hesitant to go spend another day on the cold ice without results...
In preparation for our adventure, the girls each got an animal hat to keep their heads warm.

River's Brown Bear.
After bundling up good and warm, we headed out singing our "Fishing Song!"
Sung to the tune of "Farmer in the Dell"

A Fishing we will go!
A Fishing we will go!
Hi Ho the Derry Oh,
A Fishing we will go!

We've got our coats and hats,
We've got our poles and lures
Hi Ho the Derry Oh,
A Fishing we will go!

River's shirt reads:  He's not just my Daddy, He's my Hero!

It turned out SO great that we took a second trip and what a great adventure it turned out to be!!
It was a beautiful WARM day - River didn't have her coat on much of the time because it was so nice.
Dad drilled the holes and the girls went around scooping the ice and slush out of them.  This was really fun for them, they always had a job to do with 6 holes to keep ice-free.

Within a minute of having our worm in the water, River pulled out a GREAT fish!
She was so excited!

We pulled out fish after fish after fish!
I even won our double or nothing bet that Colt got the privilege of doing dishes for 2 nights!

River was SO patient, she would keep going through the slow times, and had such a great time setting the hook and reeling them in.

Silver - Bright Sun!
We went with a neighbor and his boy that brought this little deer blind.  It worked out great!  It was very warm inside.  It was also dark inside and you could see the holes glowing.

With a fish that we kept - they got a kick of it wiggling around.
They would go up to it, and touch it and then run screaming away when it flipped around.

River very much enjoyed this trip!

Silver and Daddy fishing

Mommy with Summer, Daddy with Silver and River with the Fish!
This was the BEST fishing trip I have ever been on!
The kids had fun reeling fish after fish and had jobs to do with watching the poles and fishing out the ice.  They ran through the snow and enjoyed!
Such a Fabulous time!

Our Fishing Song on the way back home:

We had lots of fun!
We had lots of fun!
Hi Ho the Derry Oh,
We had lots of fun!

The girls won the boys!
The girls won the boys!
Hi Ho the Derry Oh,
The Girls won the Boys!

Silver especially got a kick out of making up new verses and especially singing that the girls outfished the boys!  (It could have been that the boys were kept busy getting the poles rigged up again and back into the water after the girls pulled out the fish :)

River's message on Daddy's truck:
I Love Dad

Silver's prayer a week after going fishing:  "Thank you for helping me get better.  Please help me go on a date."
Mom:  What's a date, and who do you want to go with?
Silver:  You know!!  A date is Fishing with Daddy!

  1. You are so good! I don't know which I dislike more- fishing or snow and ice. You are the perfect wife for Colt. I love all the girls' hats. What memories!
